5 BEAUTY MYTHS WE SHOULD STOP TO BELIEVE
Do you believe that your skin breathes, and that a dried up mascara has a second chance? If so, we will tell you why these 2 and 3 more myths are lies that must be over.

MYTH #1. MAKEUP DAMAGES THE SKIN
It seems to make sense, doesn’t it? Foundations and other complexion makeup products create film that clogs pores, causes breakouts and makes it difficult for skin to breathe. But scientists can challenge this statement, because
skin doesn’t breathe like lungs do.

Skin’s cells, like any other cells in the body, take part in cellular gaseous exchange, also called breathing. However, the air doesn’t penetrate the skin. Consequently, it can’t “choke” or “gasp”.
High-quality products that undergo safety tests and are approved by dermatologists don’t clog pores or cause breakouts.
On the contrary, modern hybrid products may contain skincare ingredients that moisturize, soothe and protect the skin. For example, OK BEAUTY’S Fresh&Glow BB Cream contains SPF 30, plant-derived extracts and other skin-loving ingredients.

To protect your skin from damages caused by makeup, follow this simple tips:
• choose products considering your skin’s needs;
• use products only on the appropriate zones (e.g. do not apply lip products on eye lids, unless otherwise noted, because eye products should be approved by ophthalmologists);
• do not ignore products’ expiration dates;
• moisturize the skin before makeup and after cleansing;
• remove makeup before sleep and thoroughly cleanse the skin — we recommend to use our Hydrating & Balancing Reviving Gentle Cleanser with hyaluronic acid to replenish skin’s moisture level.
MYTH #2. PRODUCTS WITH SPF PROTECT THE SKIN ALL DAY LONG
Children know, if you stay under the sun for too long, you have burns and can forget about playing outside. Do you remember a sticky sun-protecting cream that your mom used to apply on your skin before and after swimming? She did the right thing.
The fact is, SPF becomes less effective in about 3 hours after application. The deadline depends on the external factors:
• your geographic location;
• UV index;
• humidity level, etc.

Most of SPF-containing formulas are not water- and humidity-resistant, that’s why it’s necessary to reapply them after swimming or other contacts with water.
Pay attention to the level of SPF:
• SPF 10 blocks less than 90% of sunrays;
• SPF 15 — 93%;
• SPF 30 — 97%;
• SPF 50+ — more than 98%;
• SPF 100 — up to 99%.
Modern foundations may contain SPF 10 to 50+ and effectively protect the skin from damaging UV light, but they are not almighty. Reapply them every 2 hours or more often (when spending time outside the city or exposed to the strong sun), or use targeted sun-protecting products before applying the foundation.
MYTH #3. PRODUCT MAY BE USED PAST ITS EXPIRATION DATE
Be careful with TikTok life hacks.
Always pay attention to the expiration dates of your products. It’s not a marketing trick to push you spend more. And please, do not spit in your mascara’s tube to make it fluid or melt old lipsticks.

When you start using your product, it immediately becomes exposed to oxygen. Bacteria, dead skin cells and dirt accumulate on applicator/sponge/product’s surface/dispenser/etc. and in the formula itself. Expired products may cause dryness, redness, irritation and allergies.
There is another less painful, but still unpleasant effect — makeup done with expired products looks untidy. Such foundations and eyeshadows create caky cover and settle in pores and lines, lipsticks crack, and mascaras clump and flake.
MYTH #4. MASCARA WEAKENS EYELASHES
Modern mascaras contain revitalizing and strengthening ingredients. For example, our Push Up & Curl Mascara with argan oil and vitamin E has caring properties, stimulates the growth of eyelashes and strengthens them.

The key to beautiful and fluffy eyelashes is an appropriate care:
• do not remove mascara with water — use makeup removers;
• do not rub the eyes while washing your face — intense movements can damage the eyelashes;
• always remove mascara before sleep;
• do not over-layer your mascara — the more layers you put, the more time it will take to remove them.
MYTH #5. BRIGHT MAKEUP LOOKS GAUDY
Stop listening to the fans of the classic wings — bright accents are always all the rage.

If your boss is not a huge fan of crystals, surprise him with bold flicks, draw lines along the lower lids, or create subtle smoky-eye effect with Color Salute Slide & Stay Long-Wear Eye Pencil in Muzo, Ice Gold, Sunset or another dramatic shade.
